Roman Hamrlik was selected first-overall by the Lightning in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft
- John Gove

"No one remembers who was taken second."

Or, if they do, they also remember his fall from grace and extremely lengthy buyout.

Honestly, the best pick from this draft was probably Sergei Gonchar, although you could argue for Straka, Khabibulin, and Lehtinen. Not the strongest of drafts, which seemed to happen a lot in the 90s.

Good career. Roman played the most NHL games of anyone in the 92 draft.

Interesting format John!

As for no one remembers who went second; it was Yashin!

The Islanders and Mikey Milbury sure loved Yashin to sign him for 10 years and $87.5M in 2001. Milbury traded Chara, Muckalt and 2nd overall pick (Spezza) for Yashin. Classic Milbury.

Brent Gretzky was also drafted by TB first in the 3rd round. Holds the record with his big brother for most goals, assists and points by brothers. Brent played 13 games, scored 1 goal and had 3 assists. Older siblings can be a pain.
